Biostatistics

Quantitative Sciences Unit (QSU)

The QSU is a collaborative biostatistics unit  in BMIR led by Manisha Desai, Section Chief of Biostatistics .

QSU members are statistical scientists with expertise in addressing clinical-trial design, imputation of missing data, prediction modeling, statistical computing, database creation, and software development. The QSU currently collaborates on over 100 large-scale scientific projects. They believe that, to further science, it is important to facilitate the flow of data to investigators as efficiently as possible. The QSU believes that interdisciplinary research is best achieved by full integration of all investigators. Members of the QSU become an integral part of each research team in which they are involved.

QSU's specific goals are:

  • To design studies that optimize the ease of interpreting results
  • To provide high quality data analysis using modern statistical techniques
  • To develop new or adapt old methods for optimal analysis as the need arises
  • To securely house and track data in a HIPAA-compliant and IRB-compliant manner
  • To create user-friendly, publicly available software for recommended methods
  • To interpret results
  • To disseminate findings
  • To mentor clinical investigators in research methods
